An insane bet
It was simple: Dustin (@dhendy) and I (@mg) agreed that we needed to get more fit. In our quarter-life years we’ve packed on some unnecessary pounds and unfortunately probably aren’t in the best shape we’ve ever been in. To make matters worse, neither of us could come up with the motivation.
Enter my insane idea.
I called up Dustin and hashed out a bet. Dustin takes bets very seriously so I figured who better to do this with.
The rules are simple:
- Starts May 15th
- Ends August 15th (the day after Dustin’s wedding)
- Must meet fitness goals to be set up by trainer week of May 9th (most likely will be based on some weight loss, but mostly increase in lean mass and reduction of fat mass)
- Use the Withings scale to track weight loss and fat mass
- Use DailyBurn to track fitness goals and nutrition
If we don’t meet our goals, no beer for six months.
Here’s why that’s significant: Dustin and I are serious beer fantatics. If we were to only have to choose one beverage for the rest of forever, it would be beer. Put a nice frosty glass of a hoppy beer in my hands and I am in heaven. On any given day, you might find Dustin out on his grill with a beer in hands. Simply put, if we don’t reach our goals…we’re going to be very, very unhappy individuals.
Now you might be able to grasp the desperation here. We simply cannot miss our goals.
We’ll be posting updates here from time to time about progress, maybe some photos, etc. This is going to be a fun few months.
